The YCL 457II-20 is the successor to the well-known YCL 457-20. This clarinet has always had all the important features that a good student instrument should have. But not only that, it also leads to ongoing success for more experienced players. Although the YCL 457-20 has always been a good classic, Yamaha has continued its research and improved a few small details.

One noticeable technical change is the F lever on the left instead of an Eb lever. To simplify the response, especially in the middle and high registers, Yamaha has slightly reduced the bore and changed the overblow hole. For a better feel and easier covering, the thumb hole has been raised to a flat plateau, from which the lever of the overblow flap can also be reached more easily. Another important improvement has been made to the Eb/B side key, whose high cork was often broken off by beginners when it was put together. A metal base now provides stability here. The coupling of the so-called ”short” A key with the G sharp key improves the sound of the A and B notes and makes the G sharp-A trill easier. Instead of natural cork, Yamaha now uses a synthetic cork for padding and fine adjustment of the action, which is more durable and keeps the adjustment reliably constant for longer. In addition, the new thumb rest is adjustable by 12mm, has a more stable base plate, a larger and more comfortable resting surface for the thumb and a stable ring for the carrying cord.
