Vandoren Java reeds were developed in 1983 for jazz and pop music. A larger cut and a more flexible tip than on the traditional reed allow vibrations over a larger surface while maintaining maximum flexibility. This type of backbone gives the player more flexibility when playing, because the resulting elastic range is very wide.
